How to deliver results for Australia in multilateral settings
Over the past 100 years, modern multilateralism has radically changed how countries pursue their interests internationally. Australia is better positioned thanks to the multilateral system because it allows all nations to have a say in the rules, norms and standards that define so many aspects of our lives. Working as a multilateral diplomat is challenging, and Australian officials have always risen to this challenge with tenacity, courage, creativity and a clear vision of what matters to Australia and Australians. Our approach reflects our interests, our values and our identity.
The Diplomatic Academy’s Working as a Multilateral Diplomat Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) provides government officials with the diplomatic tools needed to deliver strong outcomes for Australia in multilateral meetings and negotiations.
Facilitated by experienced diplomats, this course will give you a better understanding of Australia’s global governance priorities, as well as the knowledge and skills needed for effective multilateral engagement. You’ll also gain new insights into how most effectively to pursue Australian policy priorities through multilateral processes and institutions.
You will develop multilateral tradecraft skills including:
- drafting instructions
- delivering compelling interventions
- analysing multilateral texts against Australia’s interests
- designing advocacy strategies
- understanding the theatre, strategies and rules of multilateral negotiations.
Our interactive, 4-week online course is self-paced and requires approximately 4-6 hours of study per week.
